Wild Dog management problem addressed

More than 15 landholders from across the BBB attended a two-day Wild Dog Management workshop held at the Collinsville rodeo grounds in October.

Under the guidance of Jordy Oostrom, owner operator of Northern Trapping, a professional trapper for 25 years, landholders learned humane and safe ways to trap and control wild dogs.

The LDC project advocates an integrated approach to managing wild dogs incorporating a combination of appropriate wild dog control techniques as well as protective on-farm animal husbandry practices, and appropriately maintained exclusion fencing to reduce the impacts of wild dogs.

Collaboration with all land managers and community, and continuous improvement through review and evaluation of control programs are also important for success.
